The Purpose of HOPA Volunteer Groups
Our member volunteers help us achieve our strategic goals and put within reach our vision that, someday, everyone undergoing cancer treatment will have an oncology pharmacist as an integral member of their care team. HOPA volunteer groups are comprised of councils and committees, and may include advisory groups and/or time-limited task forces.

HOPA Councils
The purpose of HOPA’s Councils is to support and guide work being done within the organization’s strategic pillars of Education, Professional Practice, Research & Quality, and Advocacy & Awareness. The majority of our volunteer positions ladder directly up to one of those pillars; all of them help complete our governance structure.
-Education Council
The Education Council is responsible for the overall outcomes of HOPA’s ACPE and BCOP educational programs. Education Committees are focused on building and maintaining HOPA's reputation as a high-quality provider of CE credits for hematology/oncology pharmacists. Annual Conference Committee
The purpose of the Annual Conference Committee is to plan and develop programming for HOPA's largest in-person meeting, which occurs each spring. This committee is guided by our strategic initiatives, the latest science, and the continuing education needs of our members.
Annual Conference Abstract Review Subcommittee
The Annual Conference Abstract Review Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing the submission process of scientific abstracts for the Annual Conference, as well as upholding a fair and consistent peer-review process.
Annual Conference Breakout Session Subcommittee
The Annual Conference Breakout Session Subcommittee works in tandem with the Annual Conference Committee to develop a call for Breakout Session proposals. This subcommittee also reviews the proposals and selects sessions for the Annual Conference.
BCOP Annual Conference Program Subcommittee
The purpose of the BCOP Annual Conference Subcommittee is to implement conference BCOP recertification programming at the HOPA Annual Conference by developing and peer reviewing live programming.
BCOP Prep/Recertification Subcommittee
The purpose of the BCOP Prep/Recertification Subcommittee is to facilitate the creation and review of Prep/Recert courses and publish the products annually.
BCOP Self-Study Subcommittee
Those who volunteer for the BCOP Self-Study Subcommittee develop and review programming for the BCOP Self-Study educational products. The committee prepares two self-study releases each year.
BCOP Updates Subcommittee
The purpose of the BCOP Updates Subcommittee is to ensure the timely development of high-quality continuing education materials focused on recent updates in various areas of oncology.
BCOP Oversight Committee
The BCOP Oversight Committee oversees the development and ongoing improvement of BCOP educational programming across HOPA and within our collaborative partnerships.
Education Development Committee
The purpose of the Education Development Committee is to develop non-BCOP educational programming outside of the Annual Conference. Programs will be determined annually based on strategic initiatives and ongoing education needs of HOPA members.
Practice Management Committee
The purpose of the Practice Management Committee is to plan and develop education sessions and other learning and networking opportunities related to practice management.
-Professional Practice Council
The Professional Practice Council assumes responsibility for the overall outcomes of HOPA’s professional development programming.
Recognition Committee
The Recognition Committee is responsible for not only the development of Member Awards to be distributed, but also responsible for the nomination process and scoring of all HOPA's Membership Awards.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee administers membership recruitment and retention plans, coordinates Special Interest Groups, monitors HOPA Central, and awards travel grants for HOPA conferences.
Leadership Development Committee
The purpose of the Leadership Development Committee is to establish and maintain a process for developing an inclusive leadership pipeline and comprehensive leadership resources. This group coordinates the committee-level mentoring program and oversees the Mentorship Subcommittee.
Mentorship Subcommittee
The Mentorship Subcommittee facilitates HOPA’s Mentorship Program, which pairs early-career professionals with experienced leaders. This subcommittee plans programming and events to foster professional and personal development.
- Research and Quality Council
HOPA’s Research and Quality Council assumes responsibility for the overall outcomes of HOPA’s quality research efforts. Research & Quality Committees help establish the importance of, and opportunity for, pharmacist-led cancer research.
Research Grant Reviewers (RGR) Committee
The purpose of the Research Grant Reviewers Subcommittee is to develop and review grant opportunities and foster research-related activities and resources for hematology/oncology pharmacists.
Practice Outcomes & Professional Benchmarking Committee (POPBC)
The purpose of the Practice Outcomes & Professional Benchmarking Committee (POPBC) is to demonstrate the value of hematology/oncology pharmacy professionals through the development, evaluation, and dissemination of benchmark metrics and standards of practice.
Oral Chemotherapy Collaborative
The purpose of the Oral Chemotherapy Collaborative™ is to create and promote oral chemotherapy best practices. This committee also develops opportunities for HOPA members to participate in education, training, and research focused on oral chemotherapy.
Quality Oversight Committee
The purpose of the Quality Oversight Committee is to serve as a resource within the organization for quality and value-based initiatives. This committee also identifies, guides, and promotes quality-based oncology and pharmacy opportunities, including education and training.
-Advocacy and Awarness Council
The purpose of the Advocacy & Awareness Council is to coordinate efforts that help bring the oncology pharmacist to the forefront of cancer care. Advocacy and Awareness Committees may focus on creating awareness of the role of oncology pharmacy among elected officials, health systems, and patients and caregivers.
Public Policy Committee
The purpose of the Public Policy Committee is to provide guidance on HOPA’s public policy priorities, and identify/develop opportunities for HOPA members to participate in policy and advocacy-related activities.
Patient Outreach & Education Committee
The Patient Outreach & Education Committee develops materials that highlight the value of hematology/oncology pharmacists in patient care. This committee may also initiate and maintain relationships with external partners in the patient advocacy space.
Standing Committees
Standing Committees contribute to HOPA's organizational excellence, as set by the board of directors and the strategic plan.
Finance Committee
The purpose of the Finance Committee is to provide fiduciary oversight by working with the staff and Board to develop and review fiscal procedures, financial plans, and the annual budget.
External Affairs Committee
The purpose of the External Affairs Committee is to strengthen and maintain HOPA’s reputation among both internal and external audiences. This includes presenting a cohesive HOPA message through published content and partner collaborations.
Nominations Subcommittee
The purpose of the Nominations Subcommittee is to direct the annual nominations and election process. This committee determines the skills, qualifications, and characteristics required to be a board candidate, reviews candidate applications, and makes recommendations to the Board.
Advisory Groups
HOPA's Advisory Groups exist as a resource for HOPA's councils, committees, and other stakeholders. Advisory Groups may help develop special projects and assist with strategic planning.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Advisory Group
The purpose of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Advisory Group is to provide guidance, support, feedback, and recommendations for various councils, committees, and other stakeholders.
Patient Education (OCE & IVE) Sheets Advisory Group
The purpose of the Patient Education (OCE & IVE) Sheets Group is to manage the creation of Oral Chemotherapy (OCE) and IV Chemotherapy (IVE) Education Sheets in partnership with NCODA and ONS.
Industry Advisory Group
The purpose of the Industry Advisory Group is to develop Industry-related programs that align with HOPA's strategic initiatives and the needs of members working in Industry. This group may be involved in managing HOPA’s Industry Relations Council (IRC), industry partnerships as well as conference sponsorships.
Student Advisory Group
The purpose of the Student Advisory Group is to help HOPA address the needs of students by suggesting and facilitating student-enhancement programs and activities.
Wellness Advisory Group
The purpose of the Wellness Advisory Group is to bring together dedicated volunteer-members with a specific interest or expertise in wellness and burnout. Advisory Group members provide guidance, support, feedback, and recommendations and may meet on an ad-hoc basis.
